I started KQ's Minerals about 10 years ago after 2 experiences that changed my attitude about mineral collecting. First, I went to a local show and was dissappointed by the small selection and high prices. I was later to discover that many shows use a small number of dealers year after year which results in a serious lack of selection and service for the customer. I still have a couple of the ugly over-priced specimens that I was desperate enough to buy from that show that provide lots of motivation. For a time, I did mostly field collecting and trading. It was fun (bring me the 20 lb sledge!), but I realized that the best minerals show up at Tucson and Denver.
I discovered Tucson and Denver and the buying has not stopped. I also met John Veevaert, John Teague, Kevin Conroy, Steve Perry and lots of other great dealers who I enjoy dealing with and enjoying a cold one with after a long show day. Bottom line, I spend significant time each year searching for attractive interesting specimens at major rock shows so I can offer them at reasonable prices.
In my real life I am a chemical engineer in Paducah KY. This means that sometimes, I can't respond as fast as I would like, but that also means that I can afford to keep my prices lower as this is not my full-time business. |
